Step into Historical Social Dance
Quadrillion: noun. a gathering of like-minded folks to practice historical dance in a low-stakes, inclusive environment.
N.B.: this is not a definition of “quadrillion” one might find in Merriam-Webster. It started as a joke for what to call our practices because we were mostly working on Quadrilles (the most socially-distanced social dances!), but then it stuck. And honestly, we kind of like it.
Quarterly All-levels Learning
For our 2026 - 2027 Season we are trying a new format focusing on in-depth teaching of select dances in context with other related history. “Quadrillion” gatherings will be held on Saturdays in October (10/3), January (1/9), and April (4/3) from 2-5pm at the Groton Grange Hall. Each session will feature a theme related to dance history and will include a short lecture followed by a beginner-friendly dance class bringing the lecture topic to life.
Our October topic will be [cute name here], featuring Boyleston’s Quadrilles. Boyleston’s Quadrilles were composed for a student assembly at Norfolk Hall in Roxbury in 1836 and feature arrangements of opera music from several popular operas of the period. A variation on Quadrille Francais (aka “the quadrille”), they’re a great way to learn one of the key foundation dances of the 19th century ballroom with a local twist.
Future themes will be announced as details are finalized. For any questions please reach out to welcome@footworkandfrolick.org.
Advanced Practice
Members of Footwork & Frolick gather monthly to work on advanced material and ongoing dance reconstruction projects. Folks who have previously attended beginner classes and demonstrated the skills and knowledge to move on to more advanced material may be invited to join these sessions. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to welcome@footworkandfrolick.org!
