Parlor Games at Boutwell House
What do fox, geese, sparrows, and cats have in common?
They are all 19th century games! Footwork & Frolick returns to the Groton History Center for GrotonFest this spring, where we will be playing - and teaching - a variety of games popular during the mid-19th century (when Boutwell House was built). Games will be approachable for children 8 to 80.
Weather permitting games will be outside on the lawn. Boutwell House will be open to the public and games are free to attend.
A Bridgerton-inspired Tea and Croquet Tournament
We’re partnering with Historic New England this summer for a day worthy of the Bridgertons… Join members of F&F at Roseland Cottage, a Historic New England property, for a croquet tournament! With the gardens approaching full bloom, this is a perfect time to don your favorite ensemble and join the Ton for a day of delights.
Blowing Out the Lamps: A Celebration at the Mills
During the height of mill operation in Lowell and other industrial centers in the northeast, the tradition of “blowing out balls” on the spring equinox lit the mills with light, music, and cheer each March. On the equinox, folks across the city would come together to celebrate the lengthening of daylight: from the next day until the fall, an entire 12-hour shift could complete in daylight, without the use of dim and noxious lamps.
Join Footwork & Frolick for an evening of 1830s-1850s dancing in the spirit of the Lowell mill workers in one of the original mills! More details and tickets to come.
May Day Ball
Join Footwork & Frolick to celebrate the start of the Season, both Spring and Bridgerton! Dance in the main hall of the Groton Grange and welcome the return of flowers, sunshine, and Lady Whistledown from 7pm - 9:30pm on Saturday, May 4. Beginners welcome!
Victorian Valentine Tea
At our first fundraiser, guests enjoyed a traditional 3-course tea menu of savories, scones, and sweets at the historic Boutwell House in Groton, MA.
Dancing Demonstration at Boutwell House
In partnership with the Groton History Center, members of F&F “made merry” in the large parlor of Boutwell House, performing dances of the mid-19th century.
Gilded Age Weekend
As a “test run” to explore how we might run events in a world impacted by Covid, the future F&F Society team took over the Silver Fountain Inn & Tea Room in Dover, NH for a very small invitation-only event focused on dancing in America’s “gilded age” (1870s-90s).
